At least 17 people, including two children, were killed off the island of Haiti when the sailing ship they were on sank between the island of Tortuga and the fishing port of Saint-Louis-du-Nord.
It is assumed that there were about 30 people on the ship Ancelita. It did not receive permission to go to sea from the coast guard, as there was a strong wind.
Nine people were rescued and the search for possible survivors continues.
