Exploring the beauties of the Bay of Kotor. Herceg Novi.
A truly unique gem of the Montenegrin seaside, Herceg Novi is located at the very beginning of the Bay of Kotor. The history of the city is something amazing even for Montenegro with its turbulent history.
The city was founded at the end of the fourteenth century by King Tvrtko I of Bosnia, then the city passed into the possession of different states more than ten times: Turkey, the Republic of Venice, Austria— Hungary, France, Spain. Even the Russian Empire owned the city for one year in the last quarter of the 19th century.
Herceg Novi is a unique botanical garden city. The touching concern of the locals for the green decoration of the city leaves none of the visitors indifferent. This is a centuries—old tradition. For six centuries, sailors have been bringing seedlings and seeds from various countries. Today, palm trees, oleanders, agaves, cacti, bamboo, eucalyptus, and other exotic plants and trees grow on the territory of Herceg Novi.
The city is also considered the capital of all kinds of masquerades, carnivals and festivals, the most famous of which is the Mimosa Festival, held annually at the end of February.
