A truly unique gem of the Montenegrin seaside, Herceg Novi, is located at the very beginning of the Boko Kotor Bay. The history of the city is something amazing even for Montenegro with its turbulent history.
The city was founded at the end of the fourteenth century by the King of Bosnia Tvrtko I, then the city more than ten times passed into the possession of different states: Turkey, the Republic of Venice, Austria — Hungary, France, Spain. Even the Russian Empire owned the city for one year in the last quarter of the 19th century.
Herceg Novi is a unique botanical garden city. The touching care of the locals about the green decoration of the city does not leave anyone indifferent from the visitors. This is a centuries-old tradition. For six centuries, sailors brought seedlings and seeds from various countries. Today, the territory of Herceg Novi is home to palm trees, oleanders, agaves, cacti, bamboo, eucalyptus, and other exotic plants and trees.
